Side Effects

Some people looking for a natural way to detox the body feel sick when they start their detox diet of choice. Diarrhea, fatigue, skin outbreaks, hunger, unwanted weight loss are some of the symptoms. Often there is no need to worry about these symptoms as they are just signs that your body is ridding itself of accumulated toxins.

At the same time you should be aware that the feelings of illness you are going through could also be warning signs that something is going wrong with your body. Remember that the final outcome of a detox diet is meant to be good for your body so any side effects you are getting should be observed carefully and not allowed to develop into illness. Part of your research into detoxing should consist of finding out about good dietary and eating habits and exercise routines that you can adopt long after you have gone through the detoxification process.

Detox diet side effects are often known as a “healing crisis”. This crisis is a period of time when your side effects are at their worst followed by an easing off of symptoms as your body rids itself of toxins. So recognize that you should begin to feel better as your detoxing time goes on. If you are continuing to feel bad, you should look for expert help.

The basic way of fighting off the detoxing side effects is to drink plenty of water and get lots of sleep. If you find yourself feeling nervous or unable to get to sleep, try some regular exercise every day, like half an hour of walking. If you are going through a drastic detox diet then your body is also getting used to smaller quantities of food, so expect it to be complaining a little. Again, these kinds of symptoms should settle down quickly.

Detox side effects are more acute for people who are addicted to nicotine or are regular coffee and tea drinkers. The withdrawal period for these substances is quite short and when you come out the other side, you will have the feeling of having won a battle with your demons. Coming through a period of cravings is always a bonus if you undertake any kind of detoxification regime and absolutely essential if you are going onto a more ambitious weight loss detox.

If you decide to make herbs or herbal compounds a part of your detox, you should be aware that even natural ingredients have side effects. Herb side effects are a result of people using too much of a particular herb or using it without considering their present physical condition. If you are diabetic, have high blood pressure or if you are pregnant you are particularly vulnerable to herb side effects, so don’t go on any course of herbal treatment without a talk with your doctor.

Green tea is one natural substance that you might come across if you want to detox in conjunction with a weight loss program. The weight loss benefits for green tea have not been backed up by science but it is known to have some side effects. The side effects of green tea include nervousness, tachycardia and insomnia. This is because the tea contains caffeine. If you are on any prescribed medication, talk to your doctor about the side effects of green tea combined with your medicine.

Another common herb is ginger which can be bought as dietary supplement. Ginger side effects include upset stomach and heartburn. So if you take large quantities of ginger, side effects are quite likely.

Always buy your herbs only from companies with a good reputation. The packaging should include detailed instructions on how to take the herb or compound. Basically, with any herb side effects are possible so don’t just think of them as harmless “natural” products.
